Slide Notes

Welcome to Week 5. This is our first deliberate break in the action. We will do this again in Week 10. You all have done great work the first month of the course! Please take some time to reflect and regroup (and maybe rework anything you haven't gotten a good grade on...).

Are you ready to build a good special project, or are you kind of coasting and hoping it works out? What have you learned so far? What have we done well? Done poorly? What should be changed? Change is hard...

  • What have you learned so far?
What have you learned so far? What is helping (or not helping) you?

So far, we've been concerned primarily with:

// notions of strategy

// you as a problem solver

// learning new tools; experiencing what its like to be forced to immediately conform to new KM experiences...

// some change management: surviving some unexpected change; seeing you can affect the class' design, perhaps having some emotion about some of the class features

// finding a problem to work on as a special project

your special project

  • get on track
Success in your project at this point would look like the following:

// you have a defined problem/topic

// you've explored some ideas with mind-mapping

// you've correlated an approach to the problem (IE, strategy) with your preference for problem solving

// the problem is tied to something useful at your real job

// you have a fairly clear idea what your output will be

// you are not panicked or stressed; you are in control

// the plan to address the project conforms to your sensibilities about planning/strategizing

A big thing to consider:

// there is a lot of good data and insight on fellow student tumblrs now; have you reached out to anyone for support?

Who is the thinker in the photo? How might he be helpful to us in a KM strategy class?

a: Descartes. "Cogito ergo sum..." ...yes, I hear you, but how can I be sure?
