THE CURSE OF THE SUB-LEVEL

DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND

A LACK OF CONSISTANCY

GRADE NOT PROGRESS

LACK OF 'REAL' FEEDBACK

AND THE GOOD BITS?...

  • Pupils, staff and stakeholders understand structure
  • Evidences progress for OFSTED, obs, benchmarking

  • New KS3 NC already linked to levels for this year

WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

START TO THINK ABOUT...

  • Reviewing the 'pitfalls' of the current system
  • New NC @KS3 into skills & knowledge PLCs
  • Bridging the gap between KS2 & KS4 (New in 2016)

HOW DO THEY MEASURE UP?

WHAT DO WE KNOW?

  • All GCSE's are linear
  • Re-sits are virtually non-existent
  • Will continue to be called 'GCSE's'
  • Competition between exam boards
  • Global competition = harder GCSE's

WILL 1 BE THE HIGHEST?

  • Original plan - but NO
  • 9 will be the highest grade
  • Scope for 10's and 11's for top students
  • High numbers worth more match pt score

HOW DOES THE RANGE COMPARE?

  • Start at grade 4=existing grade C
  • Grade 7=proportion achieving an A
  • Grade 9=exceptional performance
  • Grade 5=new pass grade & benchmarked
  • internationally (original aim)

WHEN?

  • Current Y9's (2015) old and new grades
  • All stakeholders to be educated
