I liked in the book how subtly the author introduced the world and new concepts into the book. It helps you better understand the complicated world that the book takes place in. I also appreciated how much the characters, especially ender, developed during the story, and became very well rounded. Another thing that I thought was a very good decision was the way that the book ended with a very satisfying ending that still left room for a sequel to the book. I also liked that after ender left earth, the subplot with Valentine and Peter kept us informed as to what was happening there.
Three things I dislike about the book is that even though there are some very well rounded characters, some of the characters are very generic in the was they act. Another dislike is that so many things happen to ender at first, and then a large time jump occurs and seemingly nothing happens during it.
SYMBOLS
- Ender and peter playing "Buggers and Astronauts"
- The giant game
- Enders name
THEMES
- Things, like the games, are not always as simple as they seem
- Winning the game isnt always the best answer
- Everybody needs someone there for them that cares about them
This book was important and is important because it causes you to question a lot of things not only in the book, but also in real life. This is why I believe that it is on the list, because it keeps you asking questions about what you are being told in the book. The book keeps you interested by confusing you and causing you to be curious.
The significance of the title is that the book is about the games that ender is forced to play. Ender plays many different games throughout the book that each require different skills and cause us to learn more about him.
This story relates to the human experience because a running theme is that we will do anything to survive. Another truth about human nature is that when we are scared of something, we act erratically and without thinking. We also need to have someone that cares about us and someone that loves us to survive. When Ender had to leave Valentine he was very distraught and when he left battle school to move on to command school he was without any friends and it got to the point where he was worried about retaining his sanity.
Enders game was a controversial book and was banned in many schools for its use of the military using small children to fight their wars. Many people thought that the idea of children playing a major part in a war and fighting each other to train was very inappropriate. It was also controversial, especially with the release of the new movie based on the book, because of card's strong opposition to gay marriage.
The main conflict in the story is ender's struggle to be the best soldier and best commander in battle and command school even though everyone is trying to get him to fail. He is trying as hard as possible to win the games he is pep resented with throughout the story. This conflict is resolved in the end because the war with the buggers is ended and ender goes off to live in peace.
REASONS WHY I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO A FRIEND
