DECLARATION OF INDEPENDANCE

  • Adopted on July 4, 1776 announced that 13 colonies were independent states.

LEXINGTON AND CONCORD (APRIL 19, 1775)

  • The first battle of the revolutionary war.

THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR

  • Starting in 1775 and ending in 1783 was America fighting against the British Empire for their freedom.

THE FIRST CONTINENTAL CONGRESS (SEPTEMBER 5, 1774)

  • The first gathering of chosen delegates to discuss the matters involving boycotting British goods.

PLYMOUTH (DECEMBER 21, 1620)

  • Colony founded by pilgrims, who came with the purpose of escaping British rule to start a new life.

JAMESTOWN (MAY 14, 1607)

  • The first permanent settlement in America.

LOUISIANA PURCHASE (JULY 4, 1804)

  • For a total of 878,000 square miles, the territory became part of the United States for $15 million.

THE CONSTITUTION

  • Originally adopted September 17, 1788 and put into affect on March 4, 1789 was the supreme law of the United States.
