  • His birth date is unknown but around 1567.
  • He was a good fur trader.
  • Wife's name Hèlène.
  • He was cartographer ( map maker).
  • Born in a small seaport town in France.
  • A French explorer.
  • He died on Christmas Day in 1635.
  • He adopted three girls.

WHAT DID CHAMPLAIN DO?

  • He was an expert fur trader and delivered fur to Europeans.
  • He was a skilled navigator and part of the army.
  • Sailed up the St. Lawrence river.
  • Built settlements in what we now call Quebec
  • He was the first person to map Canada.
  • Went to search for the Northwest Passage to Asia .
  • Sailed across the Atlantic Ocean from France to Canada.
  • Set many trade routes in Quebec

  • He wanted silver, gold and silk so he was trying to find the Northwest Passage to Asia
  • Wanted to find new and better lands.
