CHAPTER 22

PAUL'S DEFENSE BEFORE THE JEWS

  • Paul tells the Jerusalem Jews he himself used to persecute them
  • He recounts his conversion
  • Paul speaks of his going to Damascus
  • He says that when he was in the temple, God spoke to him
  • When the Jews hear this, they call upon the Romans to take Paul away

PAUL'S IMPRISONMENT

  • Paul was taken by the cohort commander
  • The commander was going to whip him
  • Then the commander was told Paul was a Roman citizen
  • The commander got alarmed that Paul was a Roman citizen
  • He backed away at once, and freed him

PAUL BEFORE THE SANHEDRIN

  • The commander was trying to find out why Paul was being accused by Jews
  • The commander convened the Sanhedrin and Paul was stood before them

CHAPTER 23

PAUL BEFORE THE SANHEDRIN (CONT.)

  • Paul said that he has conducted himself with a clear conscience before God
  • The high priest, thinking this blasphemous, ordered him struck on the mouth
  • Paul noticed the Sanhedrin was split between Saddacees and Pharisees
  • He said he was a Pharisee and the council split
  • The Romans rescued him from the fray and took him to the compound

TRANSFER TO CAESAREA

  • The jews made an oath not to eat or drink until paul was killed
  • They were going to ambush him
  • The son of Paul's sister heard this and warned Paul
  • The commander wrote a letter to the governor
  • It said Paul was to be questioned in the presence of the governor

ARRIVING IN CAESAREA

  • The governor accepted the letter and Paul
  • Paul was held in the praetorium

CHAPTER 24

TRIAL BEFORE FELIX

  • The accusers of Paul came and made their case before the governor
  • Paul defended himself
  • The governor detained Paul but let his friends see to him

CAPTIVITY IN CAESAREA

  • Felix, the governor, became frightened of Paul
  • He hoped that he would be offered a bribe
  • When two years had passed, Felix was seceded
  • Wishing not to anger the Jews, he left Paul in prison
