ABOUT THE BATTLE

  • The battle of fort sanders was located in Knox county.
  • The confederate forces of East Tennessee were engaged in the battle
  • The department of Ohio was the forces engaged for the north.
  • James longstreet lead the south
  • Ambrose burnside lead the north

THE FIRST ATTACK

  • Longstreet attacked fort sanders because the terrain made it vulnerable
  • The north side had a steep cliff which sheltered the southern troops
  • To reach the fort was a small hill
  • Longstreet decided to pull a bayonet charge

TO GET CLOSE TO THE FORT

  • To get close to the hill the sout would move dirt with them
  • The union had significant fire power
  • With the triple shot cannons and all the guns the south couldnt get close

THE END OF THE BATTLE

  • The battle was over in twenty minutes
  • The battle was known a a waste of great confederate soldiers
  • To end the battle was a firing a single shot
