CELL MEMBRANE

BARRIER, CONTROLS ENTRY AND EXIT OF MATERIALS/LIKE BORDER PATROL
Like a membrane, the border patrol controls what/who can enter a country or city. Border patrol can intercept certain substances such as drugs and send them back, or let them enter, as well as with people.

CYTOPLASM

  • Jellylike substance that fills cell
  • Like roads/natural landscapes that fill a city
Just like a cytoplasm fills cells, roads and natural landscapes and structures fill cities and contain its contents.

NUCLEUS

  • Organelle, stores DNA
  • Like a city hall
A nucleus is like a city hall because it is the center of most business in the city and controls functions.

CYTOSKELETON

  • Network of proteins that constantly changes, helps in cell movement
  • Like laborers and city workers, the work for the city to help conduct business
Like city workers, proteins help in functions of the cell.

ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM

  • Contains ribosomes that transport proteins, remove toxins
  • Like sanitation workers that clean up garbage
Like garbage workers, the ER is a network of organelles that remove toxins and produce lipids

RIBOSOMES

  • Organelles, link amino acids to form proteins
  • Like big corporation
Corporations have many workers, like ribosomes have many amino acids that make proteins

GOLGI BODY

  • Delivers proteins, distributes them
  • Like delivery trucks
Like a Golgi Body, trucks deliver certain materials to other parts of a city

VESICLE

  • Sacs that sort materials
  • Recycling plant
Recycling plants sort trash, like vesicles sort materials in a cell.

MITOCHONDRIA

  • Supplies energy to a cell, power house
  • Like a power plant
Power plants provide energy to a city, just like mitochondria provide energy to a cell

VACULOE

  • Sac that stores materials
  • Like a public storage warehouse
Warehouses store necessary items, like a vacuole stores materials and water

LYSOSOMES

  • Contains enzymes to digest food and make energy
  • Like a landfill
Like a landfill breaks down trash, Lysosomes break down food

CELL WALL

  • Gives protection, surrounds cell
  • Like police officers
Like a cell wall, police give protection to the parts of a city, although they do not physically surround a city.

CHLOROPLAST

  • Organelles that carry out photosynthesis
  • Like the DWP
The Department of Water & Power converts and distributes energy just like a chloroplast converts nutrients into energy for the cell.
