What is CAS?

  • Creativity. Action. Service.
  • Local. National. Global.
  • Reflection
  • A lifestyle, not an event
  • An ongoing experience
Creativity = Involves the arts & creative thinking

Action = Physical exertion

Service = unpaid volunteer work that has learning benefit.

Experiences should occur weekly.

This is designed to be a lifestyle Reflections are designed to help you become more aware of yourself, your role in the world, and your sense of purpose.

Why CAS?

  • Add balance to your life
  • Accept new challenges
  • Become a reflective thinker

What Counts?

  • Is it a real, purposeful activity?
  • Is it a challenging experience?
  • Does it require thoughtful consideration?
  • Can you set goals and make a plan?
  • Does it address multiple learning outcomes?
CAS lasts for 18 months.

Nothing counts prior to the first week of your junior year.

Experiences continue during the summer of your junior & senior year.

What Doesn't Count?

  • Repetitive, routine activities
  • Paid work
  • Graded assignments/tasks
  • Benefits only you/your family
  • Benefits only a faith community

What are you doing?

IB CAS honors what you are already involved in.

  • Keep it simple.

Learning Outcomes

  • CAS Handbook pgs. 6-8!
  • All 8 must be met
  • Record on ManageBac
During the next 18 months, what else what you like to do?

It's all about balance: If you are doing a lot of activity, what kind of creativity have you always wanted to try? -CAS is your excuse to try things you haven't done before.

Possibilities: Get with friends, teach them a dance and go perform it at an elementary school (creativity, action, & service)

Reflections

  • Submit on ManageBac
  • Can be written, video, song...
  • Show personal growth
  • Be willing to revise!
  • Keep in touch with Ghorm
Consider:
What did I plan to do?
What did I actually do?

Ask:
How did I feel?
What did I perceive?
What did I think about the activity? What did the activity mean to me? What was the value of the activity? What did I learn from the activity?
