  • Abner Doubleday invented baseball
  • It was invented in Cooperstown, New York
  • It was invented in the summer of 1839

first game

  • Played in 1846
  • The New York Knickerbockers played the New York Nine 
  • They played at Elysian field in Hoboken, New Jersey
  • The Knickerbockers lost 23-1

rules

  • A game between two teams
  • You play 9 top and bottom of each inning
  • One team in the field and one team batting
  • Each team gets 3 outs
  • Each batter gets 4 balls and 3 strikes

players got paid

  • When people started to come to games they were charged to enter
  • Players were payed based on the amount of people that watched
  • Then players would try to get more people to come to games
  • The first biggest salary was from Babe Ruth and it was $50,000

  • They wore no helmets
  • They wore thin gloves
