BACKGROUND

  • He was born on November 11, 1885.
  • He suffered from Dyslexia andhad trouble in school.
  • He went to Virginia Military institute for one year.
  • Then to The US military institute in New York without taking a entry test.
  • He married his wife, Beatrice Ayer, in 1919.

DURING THE WAR (1)

  • The US entered the war after Pearl Harbor attacks in December, 1941.
  • In 1941 he commanded the 1st and 2nd arnored division in a training camp.
  • In late 1942 he was transfererd to Africa to be the general.
  • In mid 1943 he stopped leading Africa and orgonized the invasion of Sicily.

DURING THE WAR (2)

  • He invaded Sicily which was a major success.
  • Post Sicily he was granted commander of the Third Army.
  • He landed on France and pushed throught Europe.
  • Held the Germans in their offensive called The Battle of the Bulge.
  • After the Germans retreated he drove into Germany taking town after town until Berlin.

POST WAR

  • Russia ended up taking Berlin which ended the war.
  • Patton later died in a auto accident in Germany on his way to go hunting.

IMPACT (1)

  • He gave America their first big victory on the European side.
  • His invasion of Sicily was a success giving bombers range into Europe.
  • He played a huge role defending the Germans counterattack in the Battle of the Bulge.
  • He helped liberate concentration camps on their way toward Berlin, mostly while in Germany.

IMPACT (2)

  • He captured the Rhine river giving America their first major victory on German soil.
  • He captured over 10,000 square miles on his way through Europe.

WHAT MADE HIM UNIQUE

  • His army covered more ground in less time than anyother army in history.
  • He was Americas foremost tank expert.
  • He had huge interests in motorized warfare.
