MAIN ORGANS

  • Lungs
  • Trachea
  • Bronchi
  • Diaphragm

FUNCTIONS OF THE ORGANS

  • Lungs- help oxygen from the air we breathe enter the red blood cells in the blood. It also help the body to get rid of Carbon Dioxide when we breathe out.
  • Trachea- connects the larynx to the bronchi of the lungs.
  • Bronchi- carry air from the trachea into the lungs.
  • Diaphragm- separates the chest cavity from the abdomen.

5 DISEASES/DISORDERS RELATED TO THE SYSTEM

  • Pneumonia
  • Emphysema
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Tuberculosis
  • Lung Cancer

PROJECT

Respiratory System

For my project, I did an interactive model of the Respiratory System. First, I cut a circular hole at the bottom of a large plastic jar. Next, I made the lungs, trachea, and bronchi by using straws, ballons, paint, and rubber bands.

Then, I put the trachea through the hole I made at the bottom of the jar and put clay to put it in place. Lastly, I replaced the lid with a ballon to represent the diaphragm.

HOW THE SYSTEM INTERACTS WITH OTHER SYSTEMS

The Respiratory System

THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM AND THE SKELETAL SYSTEM

It Skeletal System interacts with the Respiratory System by providing support and structure. For example, the rib cage protects the lungs.

THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM AND THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

The Circulatory System interacts with the Respiratory System by carrying the oxygen to the cells through the bloodstream.

The Respiratory System and the Nervous System

Your Nervous System interact with your Respiratory System by letting you feel or know when you are breathing.
