HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

Humans have always found animals interesting.
In China there are records dating 4000-3000 BC that imply the care of animals.
Due to the creations of the scientific method and microscopes in 1600-1700 AD there were major advances in understanding diseases.

As for the US "expert cow doctors" started practicing in Virginia in 1625.

Henry Toussaint along side the psychologist Auguste Chauveau was the first to create a vaccine for animals. In fact, the first was for dogs and sheep.

REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN THE CAREER

To practice, a veterinarian must have a doctorate degree. Also, licenses are required for this job and must be renewed every two years.
Michigan state university is known for one of the best veterinarian schools.
It will take at least 8 years to become a veterinarian. 4 of these spent in college and the other 4 in veterinarian school.

As other jobs go, a good stepping stone would be working for the Michigan humane society or with an internship.
Friendly, animal-lovers are ideal for this job.
The job outlook for veterinarians is about 19.7%

JOB POSITION DESCRIPTION

Every day vets prevent, diagnose and treat animals. They do so by observing them, performing surgery, and giving medication.
Vets work in veterinarian offices and hospitals and work on average 50 hours a week.
Usually they wear scrubs and possibly a white lab coat.
Veterinarian techs help out the veterinarian.

They make about $44 and hour and approximately $88,500 a year.
Vets also get healthcare benefits, disability insurance, pension plans, ect.

JOB REFLECTION AND OUTLOOK

A challenging part of this job would be making difficult decisions with the assistance of the patients owner. However, he benefits outweigh this considering vets daily feel a sense of helpfulness.
The job market for a vet is rather large considering the large amount of the population that has a pet.

I imagine that the jobs in this field will become more and more popular in the future.
This job helps benefit society as a whole by keeping their animals happy and healthy.
As mentioned earlier, the job outlook is about 19.7%

This career is necessary in society because of how popular it is to have a pet(s).
This career would be good for me because not only do I have a passion for animals, but I also want to help and care for them.
