Kings Mountain was named for an early settler not a king.
The Battle of Kings Mountain was fought on 16 mile mountain range on the border of Kings Mountain, NC and Blacksburg, SC
Battle
- Thomas Jefferson called it the "Turn of the Tide of Success"
- Battle of Kings Mountain was fought on October 7, 1780
- This was an important American Victory in the Revolutionary war
- First major victory after the British invasion of Charleston, SC May 1780
- There were no regular British soliders
Battle Continued
- Patriots used rifles
- Loyalists used muskets
- People could tell which side based on the hats
- Patriots had paper in their hat
- Loyalist had pine sprigs in their hat

- 28 Patriot fatalities
- 225 Loyalist fatalities
- Patriots captured 716 Loyalists
- The deceased were buried on the battlefield
