Brief biography

  • He was born in 1962 in Denver, Colorado and grew up in Martin County, California, and lived two doors from Star Wars creator George Lucas.
  • When he was 18 he worked for John Korty worked at Korty films in Mill Valley.
  • At 19, he began working at Lucas's visual effects company, Industrial Light and Magic (ILM).
  • Fincher left ILM to direct TV commercials and music videos after signing with N. Lee Lacy in Hollywood. He went on to found Propaganda in 1987 with fellow directors Dominic Sena, Greg Gold and Nigel Dick. Fincher and has directed TV commercials for clients that include Nike, Coca-Cola, and Budweiser.
  • As a film director, he has achieved huge success with Se7en (1995), Fight Club (1999) and, Panic Room (2002).

Music video directing

  • David Fincher is arguably the most celebrated filmmaker to come out of music videos. All together Fincher has directed around 58 music videos.
  • He has worked with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Madonna and Michael Jackson in creating their music videos. For example: he earned back-to-back MTV Video Music Awards for Best Direction in 1989 for Madona's "Express Yourself" and in 1990 for "Vogue". And in 1990, he earned three of the four available nominations in the Best Direction category.
