DEFINITION

  • A very strong storm that usually occurs in the ocean, they can be known as the most violent storm on earth

HOW DOES A HURRICANE FORM?

  • One reason they occur over water is because they need water to form. They also need high speeds of air
  • Warm water rises to the surface and surrounding air at different pressures start to move in a circular rotation

  • Other words for hurricane are Cyclone, Typhoon, and tropical storm
  • Hurricanes lose strength when they move over land
  • Weather in the middle or eye of the storm is calm
  • The winds around the eye are usually strongest
  • in the last 200, hurricanes have caused about 2 million deaths to humans.

TIPS FOR SAFETY

  • If it hits while you are home stay away from windows
  • Evacuate the danger zone and go to a recommended safe area
  • Get out of low areas and out of flood zones
  • Move inland because hurricanes lose power over land

Overall hurricanes are very powerful storms that could kill you and damage a lot. They range in power, and the more powerful the more lethal. Hurricanes are the most intense storm on earth
