WHO IS MY EXPLORER?

  • He was born in 1757 in Kings Lynn, Great Britain
  • He joined the Royal Navy at the age of 13
  • He died in 1798 in Petersham, Great Britain
  • He was named Lieutenant of the Royal Navy
  • He was a skilled map maker

WHAT DID MY EXPLORER DO?

  • He mapped the western coast of North America
  • He tried to find the Northwest passage to Asia but was unsuccessful
  • He sailed across the Atlantic Ocean

WHERE DID MY EXPLORER DO HIS EXPLORATIONS?

  • He traveled to the coast of Alaska
  • He traveled to Australia and Hawaii
  • He explored the Pacific Ocean and went up the coast to North America

WHEN DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • On April 1 , 1791 he set sail from Great Britain to the Pacific Ocean
  • In 1792 he explored the west coast of North America
  • In 1794 he explored the coast of Alaska
  • In 1795 he travelled back to Great Britain and retired

WHY DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • Because he wanted to find the Northwest Passage to Asia for riches
  • He wanted to explore when he was a kid
  • To get treasures from the Far East in Asia

HOW DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • He sailed on two ships called the " Discovery " and the "Chatam"
  • There were canons, a crew, a compass and food on the ship
  • He used a map and a telescopes to navigate with

HOW DID THINGS CHANGE IN THE WORLD AFTER MY EXPLORER'S EXPLORATIONS?

  • His maps were used in further explorations in Canada and the United States
  • We have land marks in Canada that he discovered such as Vancouver and British Colombia
  • He also wrote the first book ever which told about a British explorer's adventures

REFLECTIVE COMMENT

  • I think his explorations are very interesting and cool because they are very well known around Canada
  • He is a very interesting explorer to learn about because you can learn how parts of Canada were discovered
  • He is a risk-taker because at such a young age he joined the Royal Navy even though he could have died
  • He's knowledgeable because he knew how to make a map and how to navigate the waters
