Are they the same?
In this presentation, we will discuss the similartities & differences between speed & velocity

Speed is scalar

Speed has magnitude only
Speed is a scalar quantity. Remember, in Physics scalar quantities have magnitude which is another word for size.
An example of a speed is 60 miles per hour, 15 meters/second. Both of these measurements have a size or magnitude which is the number and a unit.

Units for speed

Unit of distance per time

Examples of speed

Car drives at 55 miles/hour or 88.5km/hr

Velocity is a vector

Vectors have magnitude and direction

Examples  of Velcoity

Units for Velcoity

same as speed units

Examples of velocity

Car drives at 55 miles/hour west or 88.5km/hr to the left

Speed is the Magnitude of Velocity

If a car drives at 65 miles per hour north, the speed of the car is 65 miles per hour
