Slide Notes

In FY16, our "innovation" to find new prospects to fill the pipeline for the Campaign was to create a Master "Proactive Data Mining List."

We merged these (4) lists:

Top 30 wealthiest zip codes - pulled a list from RE of our alumni living in those zips.

Identified Millionaires from ResearchPoint.

Prospect Visual High Titles (from LinkedIn)

Reeher MG Predictive Scores of 95+

After clean-up (e.g. removing dupes, Dropped, Managed) Research had over 1600 prospects to "mine" by Confirmed Identified Assets, Reeher Score, Zip, Reunion, etc.

Next Steps

Coming in September: Proactive Mining List
After a July/August database screening, Research will begin the process of recreating/refreshing the Master Proactive Data Mining List for FY17 and beyond

This process will include Class of 2021 parents as part of the Parent Allstar goals for FY17

A little history...

2009-2016
February-09 Test batch of about 100 records; purchased predictive modeling (MGL, AGL, PGL) of 30,000 records; top 10,000 records run through WealthPoint; all data returned in The Researcher's Edge (TRE) database product

March-10 Purchased ResearchPoint Silver (formerly The Researcher's Edge); rescreened data in WealthPoint as part of package

February-12 Purchased two (2) additional 2,500 wealth screening batches (Parent Allstars and special projects)

April-13 Had not used above 5,000 screenings yet; purchased additional 25,000 screenings to refresh database; also purchased NOZA exact match on top 10% records

October-15 Purchased additional 3,000 screening batches for Proactive Mining lists

July-16 30,000 WealthPoint screening batch

Methodology

Vendors 90 Prospects Results
Collated and compared detailed info from FOUR vendors by some of the following criteria:

*data sources used
*how data is returned
*what data is returned
*cost for 30,000 records

Blackbaud/Target Analytics
iWavePro (uses DonorSearch)
WealthEngine
DonorSearch
Reeher (uses DonorSearch)

*Sent each vendor (except Reeher) the same 90 prospects (30 from each Researcer = 10 known prospects, 10 like to know more prospects, 10 unknown prospects)

*When 90 prospects were returned from each vendor, each Researcher reviewed their 30 prospects and added their feedback to a common spreadsheet

NOTE: also purchased subscription from Prospect Research Review (PRR) which gave us a comprehensive, objective, third party review of the vendors we were considering

And The Winner Is...

Blackbaud/Target Analytics
Some of our ResearchPoint Comments:

"I like that all the information is in one place - there's not a separation between searches and profiles/screenings
I found the best results (on average) with ResearchPoint - they seem to be the most consistent"

"Sync ability (integration) with RE a huge benefit"

"Going with Blackbaud is by far the best price as well as the superior product for our Research needs (Echelon PowerSegment/Income 360 Score)."

Echelon PowerSegment Score/Income 360 - This rating is able to identify prospects by focusing on actual liquid assets rather than estimated income or real estate.

Liquid Asset Score/Estimated Income - Data behind these come from IXI Data and is based on zip plus 4 aggregated info from investment banks

Larkspur Data = culls info from over 70 sources to generate estimated income/estimated net worth numbers. For example:

*Review DMV records - who’s registering luxury cars
*Review Coast Guard - names of people registering yachts over 40 feet in length
*FAA - private individuals who’ve registered an airplane
*Corporate insiders from Rule 144 filings
*IRS Form 5500EZ on people who have reported having a certain amount of money in their KEOGH account. *Database includes over 5.5 million individuals across the country

Rating Formula

Research looks at Wealth Data - $$ Zips - $MM List - High Titles and plugs in confirmed assets into one of two formulas:

Property >$1M and other assets x 3.25 to 6* Estimated Total Assets (TA)
Estimated TA x Interest Level x 1.5 to 10%** Estimated Capacity

Property
*multiplier is chosen at Researcher’s discretion. Use smaller multiplier if assets may be large % of overall assets; higher multiplier if real estate is “tip of the iceberg.”

**Choose multiplier based on philanthropy/engagement here &/or elsewhere and other factors like Reunion, children’s attendance, etc. Estimated giving ability is over 5 years.

Research's Recommendations

Science Art Ruby Slippers
What Prospect Research does is part science, part "gut experience/art" with a dash of optimism (ruby slippers!)

We prepare notes on our rationale and bring p100+ prospects to present at Prospect Assignment Meetings (PAM), which has become our forum for filling the Campaign for Every Laurentian Pipeline!
