Adding positive numbers
2+3=5
Putting two positive numbers together to get farther away from zero. If you have 2 black chips and you get 3 more you will have 5 left.

Adding negative numbers
-5+(-4)=-1
Putting two negative numbers together to get closer to zero on a number line. If you have 9 red chips and take away 4 you will have 1 red chip left.

Add a positive & negative
-2+5=2 -5+2=-3
Depending on if the negative or positive is a higher number you will get a negative or positive. If you have 5 red chips and you add 2 black chips you would have 3 red chips left.

Subtracting negative #
-5-(-3)=-8
Subtracting a negative is like adding a positive they both get farther away from zero. If you have 5 red chips then you get 3 more red chips you are left with 8 red chips.

Subtracting positive #
5-3=2
Taking away a little number from a bigger number getting closer to zero on a number line. If you have 5 black chips and take 3 away your'e left with 2 black chips.

-5 & 5 are both integers.

Absolute value
The value without regard of the numbers sign.
-8 & 8 have the same absolute value.
