WHEN WAS IT FOUNDED?

  • Tsar Peter the Great founded the city on May 27th, 1703 after coming across the European coastline while inspecting various other islands. Peter had a few friends accompany him at the time of boating and as he approached the island.

WHO STRUCTURED THE CITY?

  • Tsar Peter the Great structured St Petersburg in the 1700's and has been a vital part of the countries history since.

How is the city maintained?

  • The people of St Petersburg are trusted to keep the city well maintained by making sure they abide by the following rules.
  • Don't pour grease or dirty waters down the drains or man holes as they eventually overflow.
  • Keep paved areas clean, otherwise will be removed to maintain a clean area.
•Make sure to keep all rubbish in bins, no matter where you are and use the bins correctly.
•Wastewater maintenance crew workers are usually on duty at night to make sure nothing has overflowed anywhere.

Why is it listed as a World Heritage Site?

  • St Petersburg has been recognised as a World Heritage Site since 1990 because of its amazing sights and its historic community.
