Slide Notes

Evernote is very popular in the real estate world now. I am regularly asked to demo or teach Evernote. This deck is for newbies to EN. I love the line "How do you eat an elephant?" The answer is "one bite at a time."

That is also how you integrate Evernote into your personal and business life. One piece at a time.

Published on Nov 18, 2015

Many agents can't get the hang of Evernote and it's powerful tools. Why not start small and master one thing at a time?

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Getting Started!  Start Small!

Evernote is very popular in the real estate world now. I am regularly asked to demo or teach Evernote. This deck is for newbies to EN. I love the line "How do you eat an elephant?" The answer is "one bite at a time."

Why?

It remembers everything!
Evernote's tag line is Remember Everything.

I like to think of Evernote as an external brain. If there is any piece of information I may need later, why trust my aging internal brain when I can easily add it to Evernote?

Notes can be added via audio, photos, email, web, and even typing!

extremely powerful

Maybe too powerful...
Most people like a tool or technology to come with directions. Show them what to do and when to do it, and they are happy.

Evernote does not work this way. There are an infinite number of ways to use Evernote. This freaks out most people. That is why I ask people to Start Small with Evernote.

Pick out one thing that will help with productivity and start with that. Master that and add another level. Before you know it, Evernote is the most important technology you use!

Key Features

  • Create text, photo and audio notes
  • Clip web pages including text, links, & images
  • Synchronize notes across your devices
  • Search for text within snapshots and images
  • Works on all devices
This is a quick look at Evernote's core competencies. There are many tweaks and add-ons that take these to amazing places.

Start Small

As I said before, don't bite off more than you can chew. I have done that and it does not work.

Pick one feature that has value and get to know it well. Once mastered, you will be anxious to expand your Evernote universe.

Use mobile to capture photos

This is a screen shot of the main menu on using iOS. Both the iPhone and the iPad look the same. Android has a slightly different interface.

By tapping on the camera icon, the phone camera opens and the photo (or photos) will be added to a new note.

Stop using paper!  Capture photos with Evernote

Stop reaching for a notepad and pen! Grab your phone since it's always with you, open the Evernote app and snap a picture.

Think if all the uses for this tool. A property you drive by with signs, your parking space at the airport, a good bottle of wine you try for the first time, or directions to that new coffee maker.

Evernote will let you search for any text in the photos you've taken, even handwriting on a white board, assuming it's legible.

Search images for text

In this example, I've searched the word "triad" as you can see in the search bar at the top.

Evernote found 5 notes with the word triad. It even found the word triad in a photo I took of a yard sign contaning "Triad Associates" on the sign. Notice the highlited box around the word triad.

Google Drive and Dropbox do not do this. Evernote does.

Getting started

  • Download Evernote to your primary computer
  • Create an account
  • Download app to all mobile devices and sign in
  • Use mobile devices for info capture
  • Don't try to do it all at once
For the full functionality of Evernote, take the time to download and install it on your primary computer.

Create an account, and use the login credentials from your new account to sign into the mobile app you can download for any mobile device. Even Blackberry.

We need to go from this...

Most of us are not very organized with our data. Evernote makes it easier to get there.

And, even if you remain scattered with your data in Evernote, it's ridiculously powerful search will find it for you.

to this!

And it doesn't happen overnight.
For you neat freaks, Evernote's simple Note - Notebook - Notestack feature will be easy to master.

There are even tags to allow you to categorize your notes and information even more.

The clutter/clean references on these slides relate more to my brain than my data. Don't waste precious space when Evernote, with it's amazing sync/search capabilities can make life easier.

What are you waiting foR?

You have to start somewhere.

Load it on all you devices (do not forget to install on your primary computer) and start saving a few notes into it.

Don't get hung up on notebook/notestack structure or tags or complicated templates.

Use it to take notes at meeting, or use the record button to capture the audio.

Remember, one bite at a time!
