Mixtures And Solutions Terms , Definitions

Mixture
Two or more materials stirred together.
Solution
A special mixture formed when a solid materials dissloves in a liquid; It is transparent. It has two parts: the solute/solid part and the solvent/liquid part and can be separated by evaporation.
Dissolving
A process in whic one material (solid) spreads out evenly into another material (liqid), so that the first material seems to disappear.
Evaporation
Cuses liquid to dry up; the liquid turns into gas and disperses into the air , leaving any dissolved solid material behind.
solute
The solid part of a solution.
solvent
The liquid part of a solution.
Saturated solution
When a solute dissolves in a solvent until no more will dissolve.
Solubility
How well a substans dissolvese in a solvent,,such as the solubility of slat in water - 4spoons vs citric acid -11spoons that has a higher solubility.
concentratrated
An amount of material dissloved in a certain amount fo liquid; the higher amount of solute the her level of concentrtion.
Dilute
To make a solution less concentrated usually by adding more sovent.
Chemical Reaction
When two or more miaterials are mixed together and a chhenge occurs .
Precipitate
A solid material that as a product of a reation.
Reactant
When two chemicals react when they are mixed, the chemicals are called reactants.
Fact:
When a solution evaporates, the dissolved solid material is behind.
Fact:
Salt (or any solute) will dissolve in the water untilmit reaches saturation. No more slat will dissolve once saturation is reached.
Fact:
As the amount of soute in a solution increases, the concentration also goes up.
Fact:when equal amounts of two solution - for example, each solution is 100ml - are compared on a balance/scale, the heavier one is more concentrated.
