The thesis is to the theoretical framework as claims are to assumptions

Claim: The man was justified in killing the mouse because mice are pests
Assumption: It is ethically justifiable to kill pests

Claim: The government should not legalize heroin and cocaine because doing so will lead to an increase in drug users

Assumption: It is bad to increase the number of drug users
