WHERE DID IT COME FROM?

  • Roman religion was mostly borrowed.
  • After they conquered Greece they believed in many of their gods.
  • They renamed the gods. Zeus became Jupiter, Poseidon became Neptune Hades became Pluto and so on.
  • Romans also believed in more gods such as Isis the Egyptian goddess and Mithra the Syrian God plus more.
  • Temple of Juno

WHAT DID ROME DO FOR RELIGION?

  • Roman emperor, Augustus used religion for own purpose and popularity. He claimed he was a demigod.
  • Romans wanted blessings from the gods so they built temples and statues for them.
  • In the temples they prayed and sacrificed a lot of things to honer them, mostly cattle I believe.

WHAT DID WE GAIN FROM ROMAN RELIGION?

  • Judaism was practiced in the time of the Roman Empire, but just in small groups.
  • Christianity originated from Rome. It is said that people did not want to refuse their ideas and let them die, so they decided to conquer Rome.
