WHERE DID IT COME FROM?
Roman religion was mostly borrowed.
After they conquered Greece they believed in many of their gods.
They renamed the gods. Zeus became Jupiter, Poseidon became Neptune Hades became Pluto and so on.
Romans also believed in more gods such as Isis the Egyptian goddess and Mithra the Syrian God plus more.

WHAT DID ROME DO FOR RELIGION?
Roman emperor, Augustus used religion for own purpose and popularity. He claimed he was a demigod.
Romans wanted blessings from the gods so they built temples and statues for them.
In the temples they prayed and sacrificed a lot of things to honer them, mostly cattle I believe.
