The Freedom Rides were a movement that challenged segregation on public transportation like buses. CORE was the main organization that helped plan the Freedom Rides.
For the first few days, there weren't any incidents. However as time went by, the Freedom Rides became violent and harmed many African Americans and white Americans that were involved with the Freedom Rides. This was because of many other Americans became displeased with the Freedom Rides and African Americans breaking the segregation laws, which led to violence against them.
The Freedom Rides were successful, which lead to public transportation being unsegregated after 450 about Freedom Riders took part with the protest throughout the summer.
Even though many of the protestors were harmed and possibly killed, they did not resort to violent means. If they did, I fear the violent backlash would be way worse than it already was.
The March on Washington was an event that over 200,000 people attended and marched over to Washington D.C. to protest. The main figure involved was Martin Luther King Jr. as well as many different anti-Segregation organizations.
The event was nonviolent, since it was only a march toward the USA'S capital city of Washington D.C.
The march was a big success in which MLK gave the "I have a Dream" speech, and was a pivotal moment during the Civil Rights Movement.
If the March on Washington was violent, then this pivotal moment would have caused much harm and death to the protesters. The nonviolent solution was the way to go.
