PRESENTATION OUTLINE

L & N STEM ACADEMY

Educational Technology

  • STEM was created in 2011 with 180 students to start. Each student was given an iPad Air, so the school had 1:1 technology.
  • In 2017, students transitioned over to 1:1 Macbook Airs.
  • There were also Apple TVs placed in every classroom to support Airplay and other such needs.

Educational Tech pt. 2

  • 3D printers were added to the robotics lab around 2018.
  • The cafeteria/great room has a TV wall for scrolling announcements etc.

District Integration

  • It's a public magnet school for STEM subjects with a focus on technology integration.
  • In 2011, Becky Ashe was appointed principal of STEM until she retired in 2019.
  • Students were also required to take a STEM class, which is a project based learning course

District Integration pt. 2

  • Students were still required to meet the academic standards presented by Knox County Schools but the material was delivered through the use of iPads, block scheduling, and cross planning through departments.
  • My suggestion would be to make sure that the technology and STEM based classes are applicable later on.

Technology Policies

  • Freshman are currently assigned a Macbook Air (these are the same Macbook Airs from 2017)
  • Students recieve them when they have orientation and they get a brief workshop on how to use different functions.
  • Laptops are often used for quick Canvas access during class, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint Presentations, airplaying, etc.

Technology Policies pt. 2

  • iPad Airs were originally harder for the school to monitor, so the school switched to laptops for better monitoring as well as college preparation.
  • My suggestion would be to make sure to update the laptops since they are starting to get rundown; however, the greatest transition for the school was getting laptops in the first place..
