4th grade
The 9 themes of digital citizenship are all very important. However, at the 4th grade level we might want to concentrate our focus on cyber safety, digital footprints and online etiquette. The following will be the order that we will be studying digital citizenship.

Digital Citizenship in Mr. Gardiner's Class

  • proper online access-including password and personal information protection
  • learning about digital footprinting and the traceability of all we do online.
  • Proper procedures, conduct, and online-etiquette
  • cyberbullying and how to recognize it and report it.
  • safe searching
  • giving credit where credit is due

I found that the students in the 4th grade have a basic knowledge of the computer being used as a tool for education. Many of the students are more familiar with how to use it as a "toy". I feel that the most important component of the 9 themes of digital citizenship would be etiquette. Teaching the students early about the correct procedures is paramount to their success as online users. My students will first learn about what an AUP is and why it is important. Safety, Etiquette, and protection are the concerns that I will address to them throughout the year.
