CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER SHOT AND KILLED

WHAT HAPPENED?

• On November 19, 2018, Officer Samuel Jimenez was fatally shot in the mercy Hospital shooting
• A pharmacist, doctor, and the gunman were among the others killed.

WHAT HAPPENED

• Tamara O’Neal, a doctor who was also murdered, has recently broken off her engagement with the suspected gunman, Juan Lopez.
• While trying to protect patients and employees, Jimenez was shot in the neck.

WHO WAS OFFICER JIMENEZ?

• Officer Jimenez was a 28 year old Chicago Police Officer
• He joined the job in February of 2017
• He was married and was a father to his three young children

THE FUNERAL

• His funeral was held this Monday, a week after the shooting.
• “He was just doing what came natural to him. He stepped into action because he sensed people were in danger” -Eddie Johnson, coworker of Jimenez
• “I know you're watching. Many Chicagoans were saved because of you. Thank you so much for your dedication, commitment and sacrifice... Sam, may you Rest In Peace”

WHY I CHOSE THIS ARTICLE:

• When I heard about the shooting I had to face the harsh reality that disasters can happen close to home. Also my father is a Chicago police officer and it really scares me that something like this could happen to him.
• I believe that it is important to recognize people who sacrifice their lives to keep others safe like Officer Jimenez did.
