The Rain Forests

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The rain forests

By hamza mandzic

What if the world had no rainforests

  • The climate of the world would be very different now if there where no rain forests.
  • We would lose 40-90% the worlds species and we would also lose a lot of different medicines.
  • Rainforests store water like a huge sponge. In fact, it is believed that the Amazonian forests alone store over half of the Earth's rainwater😏😎🤓

PALM OIL

  • Since oil palms need a rainforest climate – consistently high humidity and temperatures – and a lot of land, plantations are often established at the expense of rainforests. About 90 percent (2011) of the world’s palm oil is currently being produced in Malaysia and Indonesia. Indonesia’s oil palm plantations alone already cover nine million hectares, an area the size of the state of Maine. 26 million hectares are projected for 2025.
  • So in its own way Palm oil is destroying the rain forests by itself.

Sumatran tiger!

  • You will find the Sumatran Tiger in the area of Sumatra. They are smaller than other species of tigers with a full grown male only about 300 pounds. However, they can be up to 8 feet in length which gives them a very slender appearance
  • As with many other species of tigers, a huge problem is that with low numbers remaining the genetic prospects aren’t very good. Too many of the tigers out there are related or have genetic materials that are closely related to each other. This is why they continue to do DNA testing before Sumatran Tigers are allowed to mate in captivity.

Cocoa bean tree

  • Cocoa bean trees grow in the rain forests and they are the ones that make chocolate, the beans look like Giant coconuts.
  • Inside the nuts there are little beans and they turn those little beans into chocolate.
