HOW GERMANY EMERGED FROM THE WAR

INTRODUCTION

  • After world war 1 officially ended, Germany was left in a state of turmoil and faced many problems. Emerging from the war Germany faced social, political, economic and military problems.

SOCIAL PROBLEMS FACED

  • The poor were starving and in employed
  • There was a huge divide between rich and the poor
  • There were many casualties and lost family members after the war which devastated people
  • Germany was now known for its internal issues and low morales and did not receive any external help

POLITICAL PROBLEMS FACED

  • There were over 30 political parties though only 6 had any real power. This lead to chaos and riots. Many people were unhappy with the way the country was being run.
  • The Weimar Republic was very weak
  • Germany was in a massive debt and ruling parties were more interested in their own survival rather than the country's
  • The alias pressured Germany to become a democracy which it did. This caused people to revolt

ECONOMIC PROBLEMS FACED

  • Germany was producing only 50% of the food they were getting from the war and there was an inflation. This meant that many people were starving and the Great Depression was extremely impactful on Germany
  • Germany was in a huge debt and had to pay reparations.
  • Many people also refused to work which had a negative impact on Germany's economy

MILITARY PROBLEMS FACED

  • Soldiers started revolting and moving towards the interior of Germany
  • The soldiers then started a communist type micro movement inspired by Russia who had recently become a communist country.
  • The soldiers started taking over small villages and spreading their communist movements
