Learning Objective:
Design furniture items for potential clients by sketching concepts and drawing up a mock design which would be able to be transferred into CAD for a final working drawing.

Your task today:
1. To sketch multiple concept designs for furniture required by a potential client
(I will be your client).
2. The client will look at your concept sketches and choose one which is most suitable for you to develop into a working drawing.

Develop Questions
Looking at the clients supplied list of needs, consider possible questions you may need to ask the client to ensure the product will be suitable and will meet the client’s needs and desires.

Possible Questions
- Does it need to be fixed to any walls?
- Would you like it made Flat Pack?
- What type of timber/board would you like it constructed out of?
- Do you require any overhead hutches/shelving built in?
- Would you like your desk to be straight or an L shape?
Review these questions and discuss the knowledge and understanding that the client is likely to have.
For example, it might be better to discuss options prior to asking for their opinion as they may not know the benefits of the different types of timber or what it will look like.
Discuss what might be needed in the way of samples and images to greet a client in a real-life situation.
