THE SKELETAL SYSTEM

DEFINITION

  • Skeletal System --The framework of the body,consisting of bones and other connective tissues.
  • Which protects and supports the body tissues and internal organs

PARTS

  • Skeletal system is made of 2 major division
  • The appendicular and the axial skeleton

AXIAL SKELETON

  • The Skull, Hyoid, Auditory ossicles, Ribs, Sternum, Vertebral column
  • It runs along The body's midline axis and is made up of 80 bones.

APPENDICULAR SKELETON

  • Its made up of 126 bones
  • Upper limb, lower limb, pelvic girdle, pectoral(shoulder) girdle

A BABY IS BORN WITH MORE BONES THAN AN ADULT

PURPOSE/WHAT DOES IT DO

  • Serves as framework and support
  • Also protects vital organs,produces blood cells
  • Works with muscles to produce movement

WHAT AFFECTS THE SYSTEM

  • Arthritis,sharp pains in joints
  • Rickets,defficincyy of calcium
  • Osteoporosis,bone density decrease
  • Bones also lose strength
