Biography

Nikki Giovanni was born on June 7, 1943 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The youngest of two daughters, her older sister Gary Ann, began to call her Giovanni “Nikki” during childhood. That is how she got her author name Nikki Giovanni.
Giovanni did not write much as a child, but instead she spent her time doing chores to earn money. She graduated with a Bachelor degree of Art in history.

Greatest Work

One of Nikki Giovanni greatest work is one of the Black arts movement, her notable books of poetry are Black Judgement (1968). An interpretation through an experience of how things were in the black community.

Importance

Nikki Giovanni used her poetry to describe the African American experience they got through. She focuses on children's literature, human relationships , and women writers.
