WHAT IS NATURE VS NURTURE
Nature- Nature is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors.
Nurture- Influences from external factors the product from learning from experiences from exposure to outside resources.
3.
ARGUMENT
Nurture plays a greater role because parents matter, and genes by themselves can’t determine everything.
4.
CONT
John B Watson believes the nurture side of nature vs nurture is more important because of his findings on the Little Albert
5.
LITTLE ALBERT
Douglas Merritte, also know as Little Albert.
Died at age 6 on May 10, 1995 because of fluid build up. He had been struggling with it all his life. (Hydrocephalus)
“Our search of 7 years was longer than the boy’s life.” - Beck
John B Watson, underestimated the circumstances of his health.
His mother gave his child to the hospital for 1dollar.
The Little Albert experiment would be considered unethical in today’s view.
6.
WHAT HAPPENED
John B Watson made a hypothesis that infants do not naturally fear animals.
Little Albert has a fear of loud noises
Watson would expose him to animals that made loud noises.
It showed that the animals he was comfortable with could inflict fear on him later.
