EUROPEAN LANGUAGES

Haleigh Case

HOW OR WHY DID PEOPLE COME UP WITH DIFFERENT LANGUAGES?

  • Where the first Indo-European languages originated from is unknown.
  • Many Italian names/words have been added to the English language. Examples include: Salami, macaroni, speghetti, pizza, and more.
  • Russian isn't really considered an official language in the EU.
  • There are about 50 official languages, and over 100 dialects spoken in Europe.
  • Nearly all languages in Europe belong to Indo-European language family.
  • Practically every region in Italy has dialect of the Italian language. Like: Lombardi, Sicilian, and Neapolitan.

How are languages different and the same?

  • Indo-European languages have 3 important branches, that are: Balto-Slavic, Germanic, and Romance.
  • Some Balto-Slavic languages: Bulgarian, Czech, Polish, mane Russian.
  • Some Germanic languages: Danish, English, German, and Swedish.
  • Some Romance languages: French, Italian, and Spanish.
  • Basque language in Spain, known as Euskara.
  • Euskara has unknown origin. (Called language Isolate.)

What would happen if everyone spoke the same language?

  • Would be much easier to travel from one country to another.
  • Native languages are important connections to the past.
  • Languages are like our personal identity, not just a comic acting method.
  • English could be the global communication right now, but is also displaced.
