DiCaprio's Instagram announcement was posted on the 25th of August.

The fires are occurring in Brazil for the most part, but all parts of the world are being affected by it.

G-7 also tried to donate; $22 Million were offered to Brazil.

However, Brazilian President Bolsonaro rejected the money.

This event is very important because saving the Amazon is more than just saving the rainforest, it’s like saving our world, along with humanity. What I mean by this is that the Amazon Rainforest contributes to so much of what we need to survive on this planet, plus so many animals’ lives.

Controversy/Points of View

Brazilian environmentalists believe that their President, Bolsonaro, was encouraging ranchers and loggers to build on the land.

However, Bolsonaro believes that nongovernmental groups may have set fires to draw disapproval toward his government, somewhat like a protest.

This event can be connected to the community I live in, as well as the whole world, the reason being that the Amazon rainforest is one of the main sources of oxygen throughout the world, and if it burned down, we’d have an unhealthy drop in oxygen level. I also believe this is a great thing for DiCaprio to do and it will add to his positive reputation as a celebrity.

..for watching!
