Domino Theory

  • The domino Theory was the theory that if one region falls to communism it will spread and all the others will fall with it.

Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

  • The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution authorized President Lyndon Johnson to take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of America and to prevent further aggression by the communist of North Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh Trail

  • A network of roads built from North Vietnam to South Vietnam through the surrounding countries, Laos and Cambodia, to provide support to the Vietcong and the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War

Hawks and Doves

  • A hawk, is someone who advocates keeping inflation low as the top priority in the policy. Doves generally are more in favor of expansionary monetary policy, including low interest rates, while hawks tend to favor a tight policy.

Tet Offensive

  • A coordinated series of North Vietnamese attacks on more than 100 cities in South Vietnam

Vietnamization

  • US policy of withdrawing troops and transferring the direction of the war effort to the government of South Vietnam

Kent State Shootings

  • Twenty-eight National Guard soldiers fired approximately 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of who suffered permanent paralysis

Legacy of the Vietnam War

  • Vietnamese people continue to live with the consequences of Agent Orange, a chemical that has come to symbolize the consequences of warfare

Draft Resistance

  • Draft resistance reached a historic peak, nearly destroying the Selective Service System

Aftermath

  • When the troops were withdrawn Communist North Vietnam took over South Vietnam.
