There are rules because of accreditation.
(The goal of accreditation is to ensure that a college’s programs meet a certain minimum standard.)

Most courses at PSU are offered for 3 to 5 credit hours.
One credit is equivalent to one hour of lecture or class per week
(or two hours of laboratory or studio activity per week.)

PSU advisers usually recommend that you allow at least two hours of study time per week for every credit hour of lecture / class.

Even for online courses, every class and every instructor is different.

Online classes do not drop the "in class" time because you are still earning 4 credits.

Since this is an online, 4 credit course, you should allow 4 hours per week for taking in content through videos (the time you would normally spend in class).

Since this is an online, 4 credit course, you should allow for 8 hours per week for homework after watching the videos. You will write short papers, comment on a discussion board, and email with the instructor.

4 "class" hours and 8 "homework" hours is a total of 12 hours per week.
It might not take you that long.
But those are the rules for 4 credit classes.

It is important to understand how much time you will spend in this online classroom and how much time you will need outside of class time to complete your assignments.
