Inquiry Learning

• Uses the learning cycle
• Teacher guides students through complex problems by engaging, investigating, explaining and expanding on the problems.
• Different from Project based learning the teacher plays a much bigger role in guiding students to use their hands-on, minds-on skills to come to a solution.

Example

• Start with parts of plants and move into function while having the students use their prior knowledge to figure out and understand parts of the plant.
• Move into an experiment phase of what plants need to survive, how water and sun will effect the plants. Teacher guides student thoughts and they learn through "hands-on minds-on" learning.

Socratic Dialogue

• Socratic questioning, (why questioning)
• critical thinking about difficult issues and controversial topics.
• Develop their own questions, gradual release of teacher guidance.
• Think and speak persuasivly using eveidence presented by other students.
• There is no right or wrong answer.

Example

• Teacher poses a question or a topic of contoversy such as Vaccinations in children.
• The class would then do some research and bring their findings and opinions to the socratic seminar.
• They need to use their evidence and other evidence they have heard to talk about and persuade for their topics.

Project based Learning

• Focus is on cooperative learning
• Student Construction
• Long-term, interdisciplinary
• Complex problems centered around challenging questions.

Examples

• Students work collaboratively to figure out a solution to waste in milk packaging and shipment.
• This involves the students investigating and analyzing on their own the problems and their potential solutions to the problems.
