• Located in southern Mexico,Guatemala and Honduras
• Ruled from 300 A.D to 900 A.D
• Located in a peninsula

RELIGION

• Polytheistic-Thought that nature was ruled by gods.
• Used human sacrifice to please their gods
• Pyramids to honor the gods
• Religion was big part of this tribe.
• Also believed in astronomy

AGRICULTURE

• First ones to plant corn
• Located in peninsula , which was good because they had water next to them.
• Had to produce enough food for their people.
• Planted many foods

GOVERNMENT & SOCIETY

• Ruler for every city
• Ruler elected by religion and military skills
• Kings were helped by nobles and priests
• King-for the whole tribe
