Gore; Born in Washington, DC then moved to Tennessee. his father, Albert Gore, Sr., was serving as a Democrat in the U.S. House from Tennessee. His father also served in the U.S. Senate (1953-'71) and was considered a possible vice presidentially nominee (1956 and 1960). Following into his footsteps, Gore was apart of the house and Senate. also was Vice President for bill Clinton
-Gore wanted to be President because before he had been Vice President.

Bush: George W. Bush was born in New Haven, Connectiit, to George Herbert Walker Bush and Barbara Pierce. They moved to Midland, Texas where George W attended school until 7th grade. After that moved to Houston, Texas. Attended prep school in Houston for 2 years. Then attended Phillips academy, all male boarding school. Went to Yale Univ. and graduated with a B.A. in history. Bush served in the Texas Air National Guard for several years. Later became governor of Texas for 2 consecutive 4 year tems(first in the history of Texas)
-Bush wanted to be president because "I want to help usher in the responsibility era, where people understand they are responsible for the choices they make and are held accountable for their actions."

REPUBLICAN PRIMARIES

In the beginning of the Republican Primary, John McCain initially won 48% of the popular vote in New Hampshire, the first primary of the year, as opposed to Bush's 30%, and that gave McCain's campaign a boost. For the rest of the Primary campaign, Bush and McCain were the 2 most popular contenders for the party.

GORE

DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES

Gore faced Senator of New Jersey, Bill Bradley. gore switch ed campaign headquarters to Nashville, Tennessee to get away from Bill Clinton's scandal. Gore went offensive during debates leaving Bradley polls to drop.

ELECTION DAY

Going into the election, Gore had spent roughly $127.1 million on his campaign, and Bush had spend $172.1 million. The election was originally held on November 7, but the decision was not made until December 12, due to recount of ballots, ordered by Gore, in 4 democratically dominated counties in Florida, because of how close the numbers were. In the electoral college, however, Bush won 271 electoral votes and Gore only won 266, even with the popular vote.

AFTER ELECTION

Soon after his inauguration, Bush was faced with the worst terrorist attack of the decade. 9/11, the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers. He formed the Home-Land Security department, and sent troops to Afghanistan to break up the Taliban. And while the Taliban was disbanded for the time being, Osama Bin Laden was not captured.
