1080 Poison

Yellow

• 1080 kills pests such as possums, stoats and rats.
• It protects our native animals.
• There are about 30 million possums in New Zealand so 1080 helps to kill them.
• 1080 is good because other animals like kiwis could go into the possum's traps that are in the bush.
• 1080 has killed about 18 million possums.
• 1080 protects our native trees by killing the possums so they won't climb the trees and ruin them.

Black

• 1080 can poison other animals if they eat an animal that has died.
• When helicopters do an aerial drop the 1080 poison can get into the water supplies.
• 1080 poison is 'super toxic' and it takes 1/500 of an ounce to kill a man.
• 1080 kills other animals such as dogs, cats, deer, pigs, birds, hedgehogs and insects.

Red

• I think 1080 is good because it kills possums and controls the other pests. If we didn't have 1080 poison there would be too many pests and we wouldn't be able to control them. 1080 is also good because we can make as much of it as we need. Also possums give cows TB and that can kill the cows, 1080 will kill the possums and stop cows from getting TB.
