  • Noah was saved from the flood
  • Genesis 9: Noah "falls"
  • Noah becomes drunk and naked in his tent
  • Ham sees him and makes fun of him.
  • Shem and Japheth cover his nakedness.

  • These are themes of Adam and Eves story
  • This is the fall of the new Adam.
  • Noah gives in.
  • This starts a chain of events
  • The flood has not solved the problem os humanity.

THE PROBLEM?

  • The "bad people" were washed away by the flood
  • The "good people" were saved.
  • But there is no clear line between two groups.
  • It runs between every person
  • Sin has infected every human. Even Noah. (See Rom 3:23)

IT'S ALL DOWNHILL FROM THERE

  • It only took us one chapter
  • Things went from Noah, to the tower of babble.
  • Rebellion of humanity & Gods response
  • First: the flood.
  • Second: language confusion

THE TOWER OF BABBLE

  • Humanity decided the wanted to build a tower
  • One that goes all the way up to the heavens.
  • The people were scattered about the world
  • Speaking different languages.
  • Gods relationship with humanity is broken.

A NEW HOPE

  • God chooses one man to bring back the blessing
  • Abram (soon to be Abraham) was not chosen for his own sake.
  • He will bless all the rest of the human family
  • Gen 12: "In you, Abram, all the families of the earth will be blessed.

A COVENANT

  • Abraham is to become the father of nations
  • His descendants will be many.
  • Even though Abram is not perfect.

ABRAM IN EGYPT

  • In Egypt, Abram told his wife to pretend to be his sister
  • Pharoh saw her, and married her
  • This made Abram rich
  • God cursed the Pharaoh, and he sent the two away

ABRAHAM A SON?

  • God promises Abram, now Abraham a son
  • His wife is barren.
  • Abraham, doubting God, has a son with his servant
  • This leads to many issues.

THE NEW COVENANT

  • God made a covenant with Abraham
  • He promised that Abraham would father many nations
  • His children would be countless as the stars
  • Abraham would be the one who would pull the world out of darkness
