be in Control

Your place is in the cockpit
Be aware of your position. YOU are the one at the controls of the company; or should be. That is where your place is. You might be 'managing by walking around', or networking, socializing, whatever... but in the end you are running the company. So, know your place.

Before take-off

There are some things you should be aware off at all time:
- Why are we in business? What is our purpose, the very reason of our existance?
- Where do we go and are we able to get there? Do we have the characteristics required for progresss?
- How do we get there? What is our strategy?

In-flight systems

What internal organizational systems do we have available to do business at all?
- Can we continously check our current (market-)position and whether we are on track of our target?
- Are internal and external communication effective?
- Are processes and results monitored real-time?
- Is management alert, agile and effective?
- Are primary processes (projects, sales, production, service) in line with business objectives? Is their performance efficient and effective?
- Is the 'corporate body' healthy? Does it have the correct structure?

Your instruments

Are worth far more than your flight manual
It is time you get handed something that gives you better control and makes you see ahead. Not just another management methodology or a set of indicators, because that just adds to the staggering amount of mental constructions that are already in circulation. But a concrete practical instrumentation such as a pilot to land safely is beter off operating the instruments in his cockpit than he is with his flight manual.
