WOMAN DIES IN ATTEMPT TO SAVE DROWNING CHILDREN

ANNE DUFOURMANTELLE

A French Philosopher named Anne Dufourmantelle died on July 21 at age 53. Even though it's a tragic story, what's ironic is that she has written many books and essays about risk-taking. In an interview, she said "When there really is a danger that must be faced in order to survive...there is a string incentive for action, dedication, and surpassing oneself."

WHAT HAPPENED?

At Pampelonne Beach, which is featured above, Anne noticed some kids struggling in the water. She immediately got up and swam into the water. She was swept away by the current while attempting to reach the kids. Lifeguards eventually noticed the situation and rescued the children. The children thankfully survived, but later, people found Anne and she did not respond.

HER LEGACY

Before she died, Anne affected many people in such positive ways. People have called her a "great philosopher who helped [them] live and think about the world today." Colleagues of Anne's have called her a woman who "spoke well of dreams."

These are some examples of her writings. The middle one is her book praising risks.
