  • v.- To regard with horror or loathing; to hate deeply
  • Syn- detst, despise
  • Ant - admire, cherish
  • A racist is someone who abhors all other races other than his own.

Amend

  • V- To change in a formal way; to change for the better
  • syn - modify, improve, correct
  • If your grades are not up to par, then you should get help so that you may amend your grades.

Buffet

  • v- To slap or cuff; to strike repeatedly (N)- a slap; blow
  • Syn- v. stick, thump
  • The man was messing with the other gentleman's wife, so he then proceeded to buffet him.

  • N- great confusion, disorder
  • Syn- anarchy
  • Ant- order, regularity
  • When the students were unaware of the biology test, it was chaos when they found out the morning of.

  • Adj- roomy, spacious
  • Syn- comfortable
  • ANT- Cramped
  • The empty lunchroom was a lot more Commodious than normal.

  • Adj- Eating away gradually, acidlike

  • Ant- Bland, mild
  • The acid proved to be corrosive on the mans skin as he was screaming in agony.

  • V- to see clearly, recognize
  • Syn- percieve
  • Ant- overlook
  • For it to be clear out is to be able to discern things you wouldnt see otherwise.

  • Adj-still existing; not exterminated, destroyed, or lost
  • Syn- surviving
  • Ant- extinct
  • Unlike dinosaurs, humans are still extant.

  • V. To involve in; to connect with or be related to
  • Syn- incriminate
  • Ant- Absolve
  • The dean is meant to implicate disciplinary actions at a school.

  • Ant- Unearth
  • During the funeral the man was then inter into his grave.

  • N- a strict disciplinarian; a stickler for the rules
  • Syn- Taskmaster
  • Mr. Coppola is a martinet and reminds kids of that every time he hands out JUG.

  • V- to anticipate and prevent; to remove, dispose of
  • Syn- forestall
  • Hockey is a sport in which you must obviate both the play at hand and the next play before it happens.

  • N- one who leaves a group; a deserter, outlaw; traitorous, unconventional, unorthodox
  • Syn- turncoat
  • Ant- loyalist, patriot
  • renegades are often threats to the group that they left.

Reprehensible

  • Adj.- deserving blame or punishment
  • Syn- Culpable, odious
  • Ant- commendable
  • The way the boy acted was reprehensible, due to the fact that he was the one that started the commotion.

  • Adj.- dark, gloomy; depressed or melancholy in spirit
  • Syn- mournful, dismal
  • ant- Bright, sunny
  • Sunday's seem to be a lazy day, when people act somber and do not do much.

  • Syn- Dingy, sordid
  • Ant- neat, spruce
  • The squalid weather conditions were so bad that they cancelled the graduation party.

  • Adj.- disorderly, riotous, violent; stormy
  • Syn- tumultuous, unruly
  • Ant- calm, placid
  • The plane ride was rather turbulent, as the plane kept getting caught in different winds that shook it.

Vociferous

  • Adj.- loud and noisy; compelling attention
  • syn- Boisterous, noisy
  • Ant- quiet, soft-spoken
  • The baby's unending crying began to get vociferous after about five minutes.

Voluminous

  • Adj.- of great size; numerous; writing or speaking at great length
  • Syn- Massive
  • Ant- Scant
  • No one good knock the voluminous player off of the puck, due to his strength and size.

Waive

  • V.- to do without, give up voluntarily, to put off temporarily, defer
  • Syn- Decline, relinquish
  • Ant- Claim, accept
  • If a team is scored in within the first few minutes of a game, it can cause players to lose excitement and waive one their next couple of shifts.
