Question

Background information

Hypothesis

If parents pass down their genes to their children then the child look similar because the parents alleles will combine to make the new child.

Materials

  • Pretzels
  • Marshmellows
  • Frosting
  • Airheadstrips
  • Candy buttons

Procedures

1. Make data tables like those shown on the sample notebook page.

2. You should have two sets of six bus each. Choose one set to represent the female parent's alleles, and one set to represent the male parent. Each bag contains letters written on slips of paper. These letters represent the parent's alleles for one trait. Capital letters represent dominant alleles, and lowercase letters represent recessive o.

3. Take a slip from one bag, and record the allele in table 1. Return the slip to the bag. Repeat this procedure for each remaining bag. Record the offspring's genotype as pairs of letters in table 1.

4. Use the table below to determine the phenotype of the offspring. for example, if the offspring genotype includes Aa, record the phenotype " green antennae" I table 1.

5. Choose the materials you need to assemble the offspring. you can use toothpicks to attach the body segments. Push the pipe cleaners. toothpicks and wings into the foam balls
