We need an example of an emotional journey.
Pretty Woman as a journey for Edward Lewis (Richard Gere's character.)
E: I told my secretary to make the arrangements. Didn't she call you ?
J: Yes, she did. I speak to your secretary more than I speak to you.
E: I see.
J: I have my own life too, you know, Edward.
E: This is a very important week for me. I need you here.
J: But you never give me any notice. You just think I'm at your beck and call.
E: I do not believe that you are at my beck and call.
J: Well, that's the way you always make me feel. Maybe I should just move out.
E: If that's what you want, yes.
J: All right, when you get back to New York, we'll discuss it.
E: Now is as good a time as any.
J: That's fine with me, Edward. Good-bye.
E: Good-bye, Jessica.
Over the course of the movie, Edward will work through some of his issues with his father.
By the end of the movie, Edward will pursue a normal romantic relationship with Vivian--not a transactional one.
E: Princess Vivian! Come down! Had to be the top floor, right?
V: It's the best.
E: All right. I'm coming up. So what happened after he climbed up the tower and rescued her?
V: She rescues him right back.
Along Came Polly Journey.
Reuben begins the film as someone who is seeking a secured future, as someone who is trying to be in control
The journey of Along Came Polly is Reuben learning that he cannot control his life.
The journey of Along Came Polly is Reuben being with Polly who cannot be controlled.
The journey of Along Came Polly is spurned on by Reuben's father speech at Sandy's play.
The journey of Along Came Polly is Reuben learning to enjoy the present moment.
Just as Dorothy begins and ends the journey at the Kansas farmhouse...
Pretty Woman starts and ends both in the street and then in Vivian's apartment.
Reuben starts and ends the movie on the beach in St. Barts.
The Wizard of Oz had ruby slippers and Toto.
Along Came Polly has throw pillows, nuts, and the ferret.
