SPORTS OF THE 20'S AND 30'S

INTROCUDTION

  • In the 20's and 30's sports were a very popular family event. The 20's were the so called Golden age of sports but in the 30's that changed dramatic because of the depression and many others things.

SIMILARITIE

  • No African American were allowed to play in Major League Baseball in the 20's or 30's they could only play in the nergo league. No African American played in the majors until 1947.

SIMILARITIES

  • Both decades had the summer Olympics
  • The 1920's had the olympics 3 threes in 1920, 1924, 1928 and the 1930's only had the olympics twice in 1932, and 1936

SIMILARITIES

  • The radio was used in both the 1920's and the 1930's to listen many sports events the radio was used more often in the 30's because if you had one before the depression you used it to listen to an event instead of paying money to go.

DIFFERENCE

  • Also, from the 20's to 30's the players salary fell 25 percent in baseball.

DIFFERENCE

  • The 1920's were called the golden age of sports because sports were booming in the 1930's sports became a national pastime because of the depression no one had money and if had extra money the were not spending it on a sports event.

DIFFERENCE

  • From the 20's to the 30's attendance fell 16 percent at baseball games.

TIMELINE

  • 1920-Summer Olympics were held for the first time since 1912 because of World War 1
  • 1921-Texas A&M and Texas become the first live college football game
  • 1927-University of Michigan stadium was built for $950,000 with the capacity of 72,000
  • 1935-Detroit tiger won the World Series
  • 1936-Jese Owens won four gold medals in the face of Hitler.

CONCLUSION

  • We thought sports in the 1920's and the 1930's were similar because even though people couldn't afford to go to the games if you had a radio before the depression you could still listen to sports events.
